Gravity Falls- a Mystery
"Dipper, you're not a detective…" Mabel sighed
"Mabel!! I-I never said I was!!" I said "I- I just-- I dunno…"
"Aww its ok Dipper! Boop!" Mabel smiled poking my nose.
I'm Dipper Pines. No I'm not a detective!! I'm 12 years old and live in the creepy backwoods town of Gravity Falls with my twin sister Mabel. I'm all about solving the mysteries of Gravity Falls….whereas Mabel is interested in solving the mysteries of getting a boyfriend. We'd already had a run-in with gnomes, a lake monster, and solved the mystery of who chopped the head off of Grunkle Stan's wax figure.
"Hey!! Kids get down here!! You shift has started!!!!" shouted our Uncle 'Grunkle' Stan.
He made his house into the 'Mystery Shack'. The only mystery is why anyone came! Over priced admission, and fake looking artifacts, but yet it's a tourist trap! Mabel and I are staying with him over the summer so we have to work there.
We ran down the stairs from the attic to the shop. Things were oddly normal. Wendy had her feet up on the counter reading a magazine. Soos was fixing things I didn't recognize. Grunkle Stan was entertaining guests with artifacts. Things were too normal.
Mabel and I each grabbed a broom and began to sweep the creaky and dusty floors. Business was slow….as usual.
"Hey, Dipper what do you wanna do after we get done?" Mabel whispered grinning.
"I don't really know…" I replied
Mabel gasped "We should go down to the lake!!"
I sighed. "Not after our last experience, noooo thank you."
"Aww Dippy! Are you scared?" Mabel cooed
"No! I'm not scared! I-I just don't wanna go…" I grumbled
"Well it was just a robot, but I guess I can agree!" she smiled
We swept in silence for a little. Then she went on to dusting, and after I waxed the woodworks. People trickled in and out, until it was that part of the day where you were lucky to see three people.
The clock finally chimed to three in the afternoon and we were done. Wendy left the register and trotted out. Mabel and I rushed upstairs to see if "Ducktective" was on.
"I'll get the remote!" I called out.
"Okay!!" Mabel replied
I grabbed the remote punched the button on, and keyed in the channel "Ducktective" was usually on. It wasn't on.
"So what do you wanna do now?" I asked
"I know!!" she exclaimed. "We can go to the field and fly kites!"
I imagine Mabel was having a fantasy in her head of us skipping in a field. Her telling jokes and me laughing hysterically. It actually didn't seem like such a bad idea though.
"That sounds good…minus the kite part though….do we even have a kite?" I asked
"We have the one Grunkle Stan gave--"
"No!" I interrupted "I'm sorry just no. It'd probably fall apart."
"Yea," Mabel grinned "Didn't he get it out of a tree?"
He did get the kite out of the tree. This happened last week.
"Hey, uh Grunkle Stan, there's just a kite stuck in a tree outside," I said
"Huh? A kite, ok I guess I can get it down," he grinned slyly
"Its rainbow!" Mabel chuckled
"Yea, and I bet I could sell it for an--" he stopped
I cut him a look. "What?"
"Oh, don't worry Slick!" he laughed "I'm just kiddin'!"
We walked over to the tree and he called for Soos.
"Soos! Could you get me a step ladder!" Grunkle Stan shouted
"Huh? Oh uh sure!" Soos called back and he ran off to get a step ladder.
Moments later Soos had the ladder and Grunkle Stan sent me up to get it. I got it. When I got back down, he asked if we wanted a kite. Mabel squealed 'yes.' That's how we got the rainbow kite.
"Well…lets go!!" she cried grabbing my wrist and taking off.
"Uh, Grunkle Stan we're going to the park!!" I managed to shout as I was dragged out the door.
"Okay be back by four!!" he shouted back.
"Okaaaaay!!" Mabel yelled
"Hey, uh Mabel can we slow down?" I asked
"Hee hee! Okay!" she said releasing my wrist. So suddenly I tipped and fell. "Oops, sorry Dipper."
"Its ok," I managed a smile. "I'm all good."
The remainder of the way Mabel skipped and I walked behind.
We quickly approached the field. It seemed like every one in Gravity Falls was there. I sat down at a picnic table and flipped through pages in the 3. Mabel sat across from me looking over my shoulder for cute boys.
Mabel gasped "Oh my gosh Dipper!!" she punched my shoulder
"Isn't he cute?!" she pointed at a blonde boy chatting with some friends.
"Uhh Mabel--" I began
"I knoooow!! He's soooooo cute!" Mabel swooned. She waved at him.
"Dipper! I'm not adorable enough!! We need to go back home! NOW!!!" she squealed grabbing my wrist and taking off….again.
"Here we go again…." I thought
We got back to the Shack, and Mabel rushed upstairs.
"Yeesh, what's that all about?" Grunkle Stan asked.
"Mabel's--" I began
"Alright that's enough," he said waving me away.
I walked up the stairs to see what Mabel was up to.
"Mabel?" I asked
"Dipper over here!!" Mabel called
"What're you doing?" I asked walking over to her bed.
"Which sweater do you think is cuter?" she asked me.
"Mabel this isn't really my--" I started.
"Your right! The sparkly one is much cuter!!" Mabel smiled. "Thanks!"
She shoved her bag back under her bed, and ran out of the room. I figured I'd better run after her. Besides, this guy could be dangerous….with all the other stuff that's happened I wouldn't doubt it.
"I hope they're not more gnomes…" I thought
"Just remember be back by four!!" Grunkle Stan reminded me.
"Ok!" I called.
This time Mabel took her bike, so I hopped on mine and headed in that direction.
